  The German Shepherd – History of the Breed 

• Discover the exciting evolution of a utility breed that has become iconic, the German Shepherd, from its rural origins to the creation of the modern standard by Captain Von Stephanitz. In this chapter we attempt to trace the major phases that, from its origins to the present day, gave birth to the German Shepherd that still exists today. Knowing where we come from is a step towards knowing where we are going!

• The German Shepherd – The standard 

  Thoughts on the official standard of the German Shepherd according to the FCI ( see here): morphological criteria, colors, temperament and functional abilities. Although a single standard exists, interpretations are multiple, each federation, each judge, almost each breeder ultimately has their own vision. We will attempt here to highlight the main deviations as well as to put into perspective the objectives which should guide the selection of a dog whose goal is primarily utility.
